We are thrilled to shine this quarter’s spotlight on a major first for ICAN, the release of our 2024–2025 Annual Report! This report brings together the milestones, achievements, and stories from the past year, showcasing the growth of our global CO-OP community and the impact we’ve made together.
From expanding workshops into more countries and languages, to welcoming new certified instructors and therapists across the globe, to strengthening our governance and research initiatives, the year has been one of progress and purpose. This past fiscal year, CO-OP Comprehensive Workshops were delivered across four continents — see the Annual Report for details. This Annual Report is not just a record of numbers and events; it’s a celebration of the people and partnerships that make ICAN thrive.
We invite you to explore the full report on our website, share it with your networks, and join us in building an even stronger year ahead.
The study explored the use of the **Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) approach** for children with Dravet syndrome. This intervention was delivered through **telerehabilitation**... The findings suggest that this online approach helps children significantly improve their ability to perform daily tasks, with those improvements carrying over to new, unpracticed activities. The study also found a positive effect on both parent self-efficacy and the children’s overall quality of life. This research provides preliminary evidence that CO-OP is a promising and effective intervention for children with Dravet syndrome.
A recent bibliometric review on the Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) approach shows a significant increase in research over the last decade, especially since 2015. Initially focused on developmental coordination disorder, the research has expanded to include a wider variety of health conditions. The findings highlight two key areas of study: the cognitive processes involved in the approach and its clinical effectiveness. This growth in research can help advance the use of CO-OP to improve the motor performance of clients.
The ICAN website has some inspiring blogs outlining firsthand account of therapists, researchers and users on the CO-OP Approach. We are very excited to introduce our latest blog by Konstantina Avgerinou a Greek OT who is an enthusiastic proponent of CO-OP.

Message from Rose Martini, ICAN Board President
Dear ICAN Community,
I am honoured to step into the role of ICAN president and to build on the strong foundation laid by Noemi. Her dedicated leadership strengthened ICAN, supported the onboarding of new members across our committees, and positioned the organization for continued growth and impact. I am deeply grateful for her efforts and the momentum she has created which I hope to continue and expand.
As I take on this role, I am mindful of the balance between strategic vision and operational continuity. My goal is to build on our progress to strengthen ICAN’s impact, support the growth of new membership, and ensure our efforts remain aligned with our long-term mission. I look forward to collaborating with all of you to advance our shared goals.
I also want to share a personal reflection on the CO-OP approach, which has profoundly influenced both my work as a therapist and my approach to life. CO-OP is a truly collaborative method, where your role is not to have all the answers, but to support the problem-solving and strategy-discovery journey of the person you are working with. There is nothing more gratifying than witnessing a clients pride when their plan or strategy succeeds.
What I love most about CO-OP is how it reframes performance break downs not as setbacks, but as opportunities to discover what makes successful task performance possible. Every error becomes a chance to learn and grow. And with CO-OP, the goal never changes if one plan doesn't work, we simply find another, together.
I hope that the principles of CO-OP inspire you in your work as much as they have inspired me. Let's embrace this spirit of collaboration, creativity, and resilience as we move forward together at ICAN. Warm regards, Rose Martini

The CO-OP Approach with Children with DCD: Clarifying Clinicians' Questions
Objectives
This project aims to explore your clinical experience with the use of the CO-OP Approach when working with children who have Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). Your input will help answer the most frequently asked questions regarding the use of the CO-OP Approach with children diagnosed with DCD
Participation
If you choose to participate in this project, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire (5 minutes) and take part in a one-on-one interview (Teams) lasting up to 60 minutes. To better understand how you implement the CO-OP Approach, you will be asked to share two clinical stories, in your own words, as if you were explaining to a colleague how things unfolded.
For more Information
If you have questions, you may contact Noémi Cantin by email at noemi.cantin@ugtr.ca. For more details and to participate in this study, please follow this link to access the information letter: To participate, click here
