Jolien van den Houten
We would like to begin this Social Media Spotlight by thanking one of ICAN’s most dedicated volunteers, **Jolien van den Houten**. Jolien was part of the original CO-OP Academy and a founding member of ICAN’s board. She was a strong member of both the Communications Committee and the Network and Mentorship Committee as well as a profilic CO-OP Instructor in Holland, Greece and Cyprus.
She is now retiring from most of her ICAN roles as she focuses on grandchildren and other volunteer roles but will continue to help out with the blog posts which is greatly appreciated. **We love you Jolien!**
We are very very excited to introduce our new social team, made up of passionate professionals from around the world (Canada, Japan, and the UAE) coming together to share, connect and grow the global CO-OP Community.
Please check out our first few Instagram posts and follow us. In addition, please follow us on Facebook and Linked In. Please contact the ICAN office if you have something to share on any of our social media channels.
A Systematic Review of the CO-OP Approach for Children and Adults With Developmental Coordination Disorder (2024)
This systematic review affirmed the CO-OP approach's effectiveness in improving occupational performance for children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). While supporting CO-OP's efficacy and broad applicability, the review also identified a need for more diverse and rigorous research to strengthen the evidence base and explore its use across the lifespan.
Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance Approach with Children with Dravet Syndrome using a Telerehabilitation Format: A Single Subject Design (2025)
This single-subject study explored the CO-OP approach via telerehabilitation for children with Dravet Syndrome. The findings indicated improvements in activity performance for trained and some untrained goals, as well as positive impacts on parents' competency and children's adaptive behavior and quality of life. This suggests telerehabilitation-based CO-OP is a promising intervention for this population, warranting further research.
If you are aware of any guidelines within your country or region that support CO-OP as an intervention with any population, please send to ICAN at office@icancoop.onmicrosoft.com so that we can collect these guidelines.
The ICAN website has some inspiring blogs outlining firsthand account of therapists, researchers and users on the CO-OP. Approach. Here is an example of one of the many blogs:
Using CO-OP Principles In Schools
Lara Barros's blog post promotes using CO-OP Principles in schools, emphasizing client-centered, top-down approaches for student success. She outlines the Goal-Plan-Do-Check (GPDC) process... A case study of Catya, a student who improved handwriting and cutting skills, demonstrates the practical application and effectiveness of CO-OP in an educational setting.
