CO-OP: The Comprehensive Workshop

  • Aim

    This comprehensive workshop consists of two distinct, compulsory parts; Part 1: The Basics and Part 2: Consolidation and is for those who are interested in becoming competent in the use of the CO-OP Approach. The aim of Part 1 is to provide participants with basic knowledge to prepare for Part 2 (Consolidation), by applying the CO-OP approach with at least one client and reflecting on how that went.The aim of Part 2 is to build on the knowledge and skill gained from Part 1 and from the experience of applying the Approach, so participants can consolidate their learning and achieve basic competence in the application of the Approach.

  • Format

    Provided in a variety of languages, in person or virtually by a certified CO-OP Instructor (duration Part 1: two consecutive days or the equivalent; Part 2: one day or the equivalent, occurring at least two months after Part 1).   • Target Audience

    This workshop is open to anyone interested in learning to use the CO-OP Approach in practice.

  • At the End of This Course

    After completing Part 1 and 2, participants will be able to explain the seven key features of the CO-OP Approach, set client-centred, occupation-based goals, carry out dynamic performance analysis (DPA), iteratively, to identify performance breakdowns, frame intervention sessions using cognitive strategies (GPDC), apply guided discovery, iteratively, to identify strategies and support skill acquisition, incorporate basic enabling principles into their sessions, promote generalization and transfer, and operate in an evidence-based framework (i.e. use COPM and PQRS) to measure change pre-post. A certificate of attendance is provided. Participants who have successfully completed CO-OP: the Comprehensive Workshop will be eligible to take the CO-OP Approach Certification course.

  • Prerequisite

    Part 1: None

    Part 2: Have completed part 1, used CO-OP with at least one person (usually a client), and prepared a case for sharing with the group.

However, it's important to note that this does not grant the use of any title, such as “Certified CO-OP Therapist”, “Certified in the CO-OP Approach”, “Certified CO-OP Trainer”, or “Certified CO-OP Instructor”.
